Dr. Khurana is a board-certified adult and pediatric spine care specialist. His areas of expertise include spinal reconstruction, cervical spine surgery, minimally invasive microsurgery, adult and pediatric scoliosis, spine trauma and tumors, and the evaluation and treatment of patients with multiple failed and previous surgeries.

Having performed over 1700 spinal surgeries spanning the entire spinal axis, Dr. Khurana is a highly regarded spinal surgeon and has earned many national and international distinctions for spine research, including the 1999 Volvo Corporation Award for the Clinical Study of Low Back Pain and the 2000 Orthopedic Hospital Research Award from the California Orthopedic Association. Dr. Khurana was previously Chief of Spine Surgery at Permanente Group San Diego.

Dr. Khurana is a distinguished member of the Society of Lateral Access Surgery, helping to define and advance the science and art of lateral surgery, particularly the XLIF procedure (eXtreme Lateral Interbody Fusion), a side approach for lumbar fusions performed on an outpatient basis.
