Dr. Jenica Ortega: The Heart Behind Wholebody by Commons Clinic

6 min read

At Commons Clinic, we’ve built our reputation around specialty care that restores movement and function—from orthopedic surgery to advanced spine care. But your health isn’t isolated to bones, joints, and muscles—and neither is the way we care for you.

Commons has long been committed to seeing you, the whole person, not just your pain or condition. And now, we’re proud to introduce our first non-orthopedic specialist: Dr. Jenica Ortega, a board-certified cardiologist and the natural choice to lead our new Wholebody program.

Because at the end of the day, your heart is at the heart of your health.

About Dr. Ortega: A Cardiologist Focused on the Whole You

If you ask Dr. Jenica Ortega what defines good care, she’ll tell you this: it starts long before symptoms appear, and long before you walk into the room. It’s thoughtful. It’s thorough. And it’s built on a real relationship between physician and patient.

My role isn’t just to treat symptoms, it’s to understand the full picture—where you’ve been, what you’ve experienced, what you want out of life. That’s how we build a plan that actually works for you.

Dr. Ortega is a board-certified cardiologist with over five years of clinical experience. She brings a deep, prevention-focused mindset to her work—grounded in science, shaped by experience, and always centered around the person in front of her. Now, as the clinical lead for Wholebody at Commons Clinic, she’s helping patients take a more informed, proactive approach to their health.

A Thoughtful, Prevention-First Approach

Dr. Ortega’s interest in cardiology was sparked early in her medical training, drawn by both the science and the human stories behind each case. What stood out to her most was the continuity of care cardiology offers: the opportunity to guide patients over time, not just in moments of crisis.

It’s a hopeful field,” she says. “We can do so much today to prevent and treat cardiovascular disease. And patients have more power than they realize—when they’re given the right tools.

Her clinical expertise spans several key areas:

  • Hypertension, especially non-pharmaceutical interventions
  • Women’s cardiovascular health, which often presents differently than men’s
  • Advanced lipidology, with deeper insights than routine cholesterol tests
  • Performance-based care, combining diagnostics with real-world goals
  • Preventive care, identifying and managing risk before it becomes disease

But what really defines Dr. Ortega’s care is her presence. She prepares thoroughly before each visit, listens without assumptions, and takes every exam seriously—ensuring that no detail is missed.

“I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all care. Each patient is different. They deserve time, clarity, and a plan that respects who they are and what they want.

A Personal Commitment to Prevention

Dr. Ortega’s passion for prevention isn’t just clinical—it’s deeply personal. With a strong family history of early heart disease, she understands how life-altering, serious health events can be—and how powerful it is to intervene early.

One story I’ll never forget from my residency is a woman in her 30s—a mom of three—who came to the ER, kids in tow, with chest pain. People brushed her off because of her age. But I looked at her EKG and saw signs of a STEMI—the most serious kind of heart attack. She went into cardiac arrest on the cath lab table.

We were able to bring her back, and she walked out of the hospital two days later. But that case changed me and how I looked at risk—I was nearly the same age as her at the time. If she’d had access to prevention, that entire event might have been avoided.”

That story—and countless others—fuels her work today leading Commons Clinic’s new Wholebody program, a first-of-its-kind experience designed to give patients a comprehensive understanding of their health, long before warning signs appear.

Dr. Jenica Ortega reflects on a patient story that sparked her interest in preventative medicine.

What Is the Wholebody Assessment?

The Wholebody Assessment is Commons Clinic’s most advanced diagnostic health offering: a full-day assessment that brings together elite diagnostics, personalized insights, and coordinated care from a team of specialists. The goal? To identify risks early, uncover their root causes, and transform data into clear, actionable steps for long-term health.

What’s included:

  • Advanced Imaging – Full-body MRI, DEXA, cardiac calcium scoring, VO2Max, and more
  • Extensive Lab Testing – Over 100 biomarkers focused on cardiometabolic and systemic health
  • Functional & Mental Health Assessments – Including strength, mobility, cognition, and more
  • Specialist Collaboration – Cardiology, physical therapy, nutrition, and beyond
  • A Personalized Plan – Developed collaboratively, and tailored to your goals

Most care is reactive and fragmented. Wholebody is proactive and connected. We look at everything, together, and give patients a roadmap they can actually use. It’s so much more than the standard of care or the other leading preventative health solutions.

The Wholebody experience begins weeks before your visit. Our team conducts a thorough review of each patient’s medical history, coordinates pre-visit lab work, and carefully plans assessment day. When you arrive, you’ll complete a series of advanced diagnostic and functional tests and meet with three specialists—designed to happen seamlessly, without the running around, or wasted time.

Afterward, Dr. Ortega and our clinical team review all your results in depth. When all of your results are ready, you’ll meet with Dr. Ortega via telehealth for a comprehensive walkthrough of your personalized Wholebody Health Report—turning your complex health data into clear answers and a plan made just for you.

The Commons Way: A Better Doctor–Patient Relationship

Whether you’re navigating risk factors or simply want to take charge of your health, Dr. Ortega’s mission is to offer something many patients haven’t experienced: a doctor who listens deeply, prepares fully, and works alongside you to create a plan you can trust.

“I want every patient to leave feeling more informed, more empowered, and more in control of their health,” she says. “That’s what good care is about.”

Ask anyone—her patients, colleagues, or family—and they’ll tell you the same thing: Dr. Ortega is dedicated, compassionate, and thorough. It’s clear from the moment you meet her. She brings a quiet confidence and a deep sense of care to every conversation.

Outside the Clinic

Dr. Ortega is fluent in Spanish and loves using it to connect with patients when she can. Outside of medicine, she stays active with Pilates and weightlifting, and prioritizes time with her nieces, nephews, and extended family. She also carves out time for meditation and movement—intentional routines that help her stay grounded and healthy.

Final Thoughts from Dr. Ortega

“I’m thrilled to be part of the Wholebody program and to be offering a different kind of care—one that’s truly comprehensive, deeply personal, and built around you. Whether you’re managing long-term risk or simply want a clearer picture of your health, I look forward to working with you.”
