HISTORY
Westlake Village, California was developed in the 1960s as a master planned community spanning both Los Angeles and Ventura counties. The area was originally part of Rancho El Conejo, a large Spanish land grant used for ranching. American-Hawaiian Steamship Company later transformed the land into a carefully designed residential and commercial community centered around a man made lake. The city was officially incorporated in 1981. Its name comes from the scenic lake at its center, which became a defining feature of the community and helped shape its reputation as a peaceful, upscale place to live.
